Could Ben Affleck Be Stepping Down As Batman?
Ben Affleck Reportedly Exiting The DCEU
Ben Affleck has refuted the rumour that surfaced this week about stepping down as the Dark Knight.
At a panel for Justice League at San Diego Comic Con this weekend, the actor reiterated his commitment to the character for the upcoming solo film now titled as The Batman:
“Let me be very clear – I am the luckiest guy in the world. I’m so thrilled to do it.
“There’s a misconception that because I wasn’t directing it, I wasn’t enthusiastic about it, but it’s amazing.
“I would be an ape on the ground for Matt Reeves, never mind Batman. It’s a great time in the DC universe, so you can see why I am so excited to be Batman.”
It certainly seems that Affleck isn’t making a move away from the DCEU anytime soon but it is worth noting he insisted he was directing the film at one stage and stepped down from those duties a couple of weeks later.
Nevertheless, Warner Bros. already has plans to expand the Bat-universe with a Batgirl film from Joss Whedon, a Gotham City Sirens movie from Suicide Squad director David Ayer and a potential Nightwing film too.

Original story follows….
News has surfaced this week that Ben Affleck may be stepping down from the role of Batman in the DCEU for good.
The report comes from The Hollywood Reporter with their source claiming Ben Affleck is to be ushered out of the DCEU which would make Justice League his last film in the Batsuit.
This leaves question marks over the state of Matt Reeves upcoming Batman film which currently has no release date.
Affleck was originally going to direct, write and star in the movie before stepping down as director. More recently the script he co-wrote with DC’s Geoff Johns has been dropped by the new director.
According to THR, Warner Bros. intends to have Affleck leave “gracefully, addressing the change in some shape or form in one of the upcoming DC films.”
This isn’t the first time DC and Warner Bros. have had issues with their superhero cinematic universe with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad being received poorly by critics and many problems with other films such as The Flash.
It’s worth pointing out that at this stage Warner Bros. and Matt Reeves have maintained that Ben Affleck is their Batman despite this report. Warner’s film studio chief, Toby Emmerich told THR:
“Ben is our Batman. We love him as Batman. We want to keep him in the cowl as long as we can.”
Of course, Batman has been recast before and we’ve seen multiple characters adopt the mantle in the comics so it isn’t out of the realm of possibility that we could see a second Batman or even see Affleck stay on in a mentor role.
In other DCEU news, Shazam is reportedly the next DC film to go before cameras and David Ayer is now working on Gotham City Sirens rather than a Suicide Squad sequel.
What do you make of Ben Affleck’s potential departure from Batman and the DCEU? Who would make a good replacement?
