Spider-Man‘s Black Cat and Silver Sable Getting Own Spinoff Movie

Two characters from the Spider-Man comics, Black Cat and Silver Sable are getting their own spinoff film.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Thor: Ragnarok writer Chris Yost is working on the script.

The script was previously worked on by Lisa Joy, the co-creator of Westworld and now the project is in search of a director.

Black Cat aka Felicia Hardy first appeared in Marvel comics in July 1979 and was created by writer Marv Wolfman and artist Dave Cockrum.

Hardy is the daughter of a famous cat-burglar and after suffering from sexual abuse in college trained herself in various fighting styles and acrobatics to take on the persona of the Black Cat.

The character has a lengthy history with Spider-Man in the comics and a complex romantic relationship with the webslinger too.

Silver Sable was created by Tom DeFalco and Ron Frenz first appearing in June 1985. The character also known as Silver Sablinova is a mercenary who occasionally serves as an ally for Spider-Man.

Sony Pictures is also currently working on a Venom film based on the popular Spider-Man villain/anti-hero. That project is scheduled for an October 2018 release and is currently searching for a director. The character has already appeared on the big screen in Spider-Man 3 directed by Sam Raimi.

In addition to its live action films, Sony is also developing an animated Spider-Man film starring Miles Morales which is due out December 21, 2018.

The next time we will see Spider-Man on the big screen will be the character’s debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Spider-Man: Homecoming, with the webslinger being played for the second time by Tom Holland.

Sony plans to flesh out a Spider-Man universe and these titles won’t necessarily be directly linked to the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming.

This isn’t the only female superhero spinoff film in the works either, with DC’s Gotham City Sirens in the works at Warner Bros. featuring Harley Quinn, Catwoman and Poison Ivy being helmed by Suicide Squad director David Ayer.
