Colin Farrell Cast in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Colin Farrell has been cast in the upcoming Harry Potter spinoff – Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
Farrell will portray a wizard named Graves – who the protagonist Newt (played by Eddie Redmayne) meets in New York. The film, currently in pre-production, is being directed by David Yates who also directed the last four Harry Potter films and the film is scheduled for release on 18 November 2016. J.K Rowling will be working on the film as a producer and also worked on the script which marks her screenwriting debut. Other producers include David Heyman who wrote seven of the eight Harry Potter films and Lionel Wigram who worked as an executive producer on Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows: Parts 1 and 2 and the most recent Sherlock Holmes films. The initial film is expected to be followed by two sequels making a trilogy. The cast also includes Katherine Waterston (Inherent Vice), Dan Fogler (Kung Fu Panda), Ezra Miller (The Perks of Being a Wallflower) and Alison Sudol (What to Expect When You’re Expecting).
The film will follow Newt Scamander, a wizard who documents magical creatures, with the subsequent book – Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them – being read by Harry and other Hogwarts students at school. The film will be set 70 years before the events of Harry Potter and should display a different side of the wizarding world being set in America, with the rest of the films all set in Britain. A real life version of the book was released in 2001, with the majority of the profits going to UK charity Comic Relief.
Farrell is currently starring in the second season of True Detective and has starred in such feature films as Phone Booth, Total Recall and In Bruges.
