Dragon Quest VIII Coming to 3DS With New Characters and Quests
Dragon Quest VIII: The Journey of the Cursed King Coming to 3DS
Dragon Quest VIII: The Journey of the Cursed King will make its way to 3DS on January 20th, 2017.
The popular RPG originally released in 2005/6 for Playstation 2 and is now coming to the 3DS platform with new characters, side quests and functionality.
A statement from Square Enix states that the game will feature “new story content that will provide more back story about The Hero and the villainous Dhoulmagus. Further additions include new side quests to complete and dungeons to explore, and even a new alternative ending.”
Other new features include the ability to quick save and a ‘speed up’ function to get through battles more quickly.
Players will also be able to take photos of their adventure and use various poses, filters and stickers. The photos can then be saved to the SD card and shared via StreetPass.
In Dragon Quest VIII, you play as the Hero in the kingdom of Trodain. After the evil Dhoulmagus curses the king and his daughter transforming each into a troll and a horse, it is up to the Hero to reverse the spell and save the kingdom.
The game was critically hailed as one of the best JRPG’s on the Playstation 2 and its port to 3DS ten years later demonstrates its lasting legacy.
Dragon Quest VIII has also been ported to iOS and Android and was the first game in the series to feature full 3D environments and characters while retaining the series’ turn based combat and experience system.
3DS owners will be able to get their hands on Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King on January 20th, 2017.
In case you missed it, last week Nintendo announced their new hybrid console, Nintendo Switch. You can check out my impressions on it here.
