E3 2017: Bethesda Showcase Recap
Bethesda Showcase Was Short and Sweet
Despite having a showcase rather than a full press conference at E3 this year, Bethesda still had a few announcements to make and some games to reveal. They gave updates on their VR projects and announced a new initiative for mods in games like Fallout 4. The showcase featured a quirky ‘Bethesdaland’, a cartoon theme park with all of the attractions in the show. The vice president of Bethesda, Pete Hines was on stage to introduce some of the titles, all of which are coming this year.
First up was Bethesda’s announcements about VR. Two titles are coming this year Doom VFR and Fallout 4 VR, the latter of which is coming in October.
Next was a reminder about The Elder Scrolls: Morrowind, the expansion for the MMO which has seen over 10 million players since launch. You can see the launch trailer below:
The next announcement from Bethesda may be a controversial one and that’s Creation Club – new content or mods for Skyrim and Fallout 4 including weapons, armour, crafting tools and even gameplay animations.
These will be made at Bethesda and by other outside sources but require credits to download the content. Given that paid mods have caused backlash in the past it will be interesting to see how Bethesda responds.
Creation Club is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC this summer.
There was a new expansion announced for the card game, The Elder Scrolls: Legends called Heroes of Skyrim which will be released on 29th June.
We were shown a new trailer for Skyrim on the Nintendo Switch including the motion controls in action. You can check out the trailer below:
The good news for Nintendo fans is that the game will have some amiibo support with the trailer showing a Link amiibo giving the player a Link outfit and master sword.
New DLC content was announced for Dishonored 2 called Death of the Outsider which is related to the first game.
Players can “pull off the greatest assassination ever” on 15th September 2017.
Classic arena shooter Quake was shown in a brief trailer for Quake Champions. Players can participate in a beta now and Bethesda announced a world championship for the game with a $1 million prize pool.
Bethesda saved the best reveals for last with The Evil Within 2 via a cinematic trailer and an announcement that the game is coming on Friday 13th October 2017.
Finally, the publisher showed off Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus with a good chunk of gameplay.
The game is coming on October 27th, 2017 to Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
What did you think of these announcements? Excited for some Dishonored DLC, Wolfenstein 2 or The Evil Within 2?
