GTA Online Receiving Big Update
Grand Theft Auto Online Gets Freemode Events
Grand Theft Auto had a rocky launch when it first released in October 2013 but since then has mostly overcome its technical issues to offer a pretty robust multiplayer experience. The long-awaited addition of heists on March 10 2015 helped boost GTA Online’s fortunes and convinced many to jump back in. Six months down the line and Rockstar has announced its next big update for the platform – Freemode Events.
Freemode Events change how Freemode works in GTA Online. You can still jump in a game with your friends, a crew or complete strangers but now challenges and games will appear. Unlike jobs, races or heists which require you to sit through loading screens and lobbies, Freemode Events are spontaneous and optional, you will be able to customize your Freemode and specify if and how much of this new content you want to take part in.
Below are the new events:
King of the Castle – A free-for-all that tasks players with claiming an elevated piece of territory and protecting it from other players.
Hunt the Beast – One player is transformed into a faster, stronger, beastly character while the other players must hunt the beast down. Don’t expect an easy chase because the beast is invisible on the map apart from when it passes through checkpoints.
Stunt Challenges – Perform the longest wheelie, catch the most air or perform near misses to win these challenges.
Hunting Pack – One of two new Adversary modes, inspired by the film Speed, sees one team tasked with delivering a vehicle rigged to explode if it drops below a minimum speed while another team attempts to stop you.
Cross the Line – The second Adversary mode sees two heavily armored teams attempt to gain territory across a neutral zone.
Finally the Rockstar Editor on PS4 and Xbox One will receive new features such as a sound effects library.
The update will be available on September 15th.
Unfortunately for owners of older consoles the update will not be coming to Xbox 360 or PS3 as Rockstar shifts all its attention to the newer versions.
