Johnny Depp Reportedly Up For The Invisible Man

Johnny Depp is reportedly set to star in a reboot of The Invisible Man for Universal Pictures.

The news comes from Deadline who state that Alex Kurtzman, who is also working on the Star Trek reboot and Chris Morgan will produce the picture.

The Invisible Man is a 1897 published book by H.G. Wells which was adapted by Universal into a film back in 1933 and was directed by James Whale.

The story follows a scientist named Griffin who after experimenting with chemicals discovers a way to make himself invisible and from there struggles to retain his humanity.

The story has also been adapted for television and various incarnations of the character have popped up over time.

The Invisible Man is part of Universal’s ongoing efforts to revitalize and reboot its classic monster stories.

Depp has recently appeared in Black Mass, a crime drama based on Whitey Bulger, a renowned Irish-American mobster in Boston.

He will also return to the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise once more as Jack Sparrow with Dead Men Tell No Tales on May 26, 2017 alongside Javier Bardem who will reportedly play the film’s villain.

This month it was revealed that Tom Cruise and Sofia Boutella will star in a reboot of The Mummy for Universal and is due for release in June 2017.
