Director Matt Reeves Wants To See A ‘Detective’ Version of Batman
Apes Director Matt Reeves Wants to See A Different Side to Batman
While promoting his latest movie War for the Planet of the Apes, director Matt Reeves teased some details about the next Batman film starring Ben Affleck.
Matt Reeves took over directorial duties from Ben Affleck in February 2017 and the film is currently scheduled to enter production in 2018 with the script being rewritten to give Reeves more creative freedom.
Talking to New Trailer Buzz, Reeves explained more about what tone the project will adopt and themes it will explore:
“I think there’s a chance to do an almost noir-driven, detective version of Batman that is point-of-view driven in a very, very powerful way, that is hopefully going to connect you to what’s going on inside of his head and inside of his heart.”
This marks a departure from what we’ve seen of the character so far in the DCEU and in Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice which depicted a much gloomier and more aggressive Bruce Wayne.
Of course, Batman is well-known for his detective skills as well as his ability to beat criminals to a pulp in the comics but it’s a side of his personality we’ve seen much less of on the big screen.
For now the DCEU started by Zack Snyder has Wonder Woman in theatres which is seemingly the universe’s biggest success commercially and critically so far meanwhile fans have Justice League to look forward to in November this year.
What do you think about a ‘noir-driven, detective version’ of Batman? Are you more or less excited about the film now that Reeves has taken over directorial duties?
