PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is Very Popular on Steam
The battle royale shooter PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has become the most popular non-Valve game on Steam.
According to the latest Steam Charts, the early access game has a peak player total of 481,291 placing it third on the chart overall behind Counter Strike: Global Offensive and Dota 2.
The game has also been played for 169,114,295 cumulative hours showing the title’s enormous popularity which only released onto early access in March 2017.
The competitive shooter involves up to 100 players being dropped out of a plane over a large island where they must gather weapons, armour and items to help them survive in an ever-decreasing play zone. Once out of the playable zone, players will slowly lose health and eventually die forcing players to move closer to each other.
The game’s latest monthly update was delayed but is due out later this week and will include first-person server options and a new rifle. The developer has also stated its intentions to release crates containing clothing for characters which can be purchased for real money in the future.
