External HDD Support Coming in PS4 4.5 Update
PS4 4.5 Update Brings External HDD Support
PlayStation have announced their forthcoming PS4 4.5 update which includes external hard drive support.
The open beta goes live today and users who signed up to participate should check their email inboxes for details of how to download the update.
One of the most requested features from the PlayStation community was increased storage solutions and while you were previously able to upgrade your PlayStation 4’s hard drive, the external HDD support will give players another option when it comes to storing your games.
Sony said the following on its blog:
“…You can now connect a USB 3.0 external HDD and download, save and install games, apps and add-ons directly onto your removable HDD. You can also move any games and apps you’ve already saved onto it to help you stay organised.”
The new update will mean the PlayStation 4 is capable of supporting a USB 3.0 HDD of up to 8TB.
Also included in the update is the ability to create custom wallpapers from screenshots and you can also alter the brightness of the menus to keep them visible.
The previously introduced Quick Menu has been refined taking up less screen real estate and allowing you to connect to a friend’s party mid-game.
Players will soon be able to post their own updates to the PlayStation Network activity feed allowing your friends to see what you’re up to in the What’s New section.
You’ll also be able to send your in-game screenshots to the Live from PlayStation section as a Public Activity.
Finally, those who have held onto their 3D Blu-Ray discs can enjoy stereoscopic 3D via the PlayStation VR headset.
