PS2 Emulation Coming to PS4

PS2 Emulation Coming to PS4

Sony has confirmed that they are working on PS2 emulation for Playstation 4.

It has been long rumoured that Sony has been working on PS2 emulation especially since Microsoft announced that Xbox One will be getting backwards compatibility with Xbox 360.

The news was uncovered via a PS4 bundle which includes the newly released Star Wars: Battlefront and which also includes some classic Star Wars games, specifically Super Star Wars, Star Wars: Racer Revenge and Star Wars: Bounty Hunter.

While most assumed these games would be ports or rebuilt for PS4, they actually run on emulation software.

In a statement given to WIRED, Sony said the following:

“We are working on utilizing PS2 emulation technology to bring PS2 games forward to the current generation. We have nothing further to comment at this point in time.”

Sony choosing to reveal this feature is in the works is understated to say the least, especially since some fans have long-awaited this feature.

It remains to be seen whether disc-based PS2 titles will work with this emulation or if it requires purchasing the game again on the Playstation Store.
