SDCC 2015 Preview

SDCC 2015 Preview

San Diego Comic Con 2015 starts next Thursday and although some companies such as Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures won’t be appearing, there’s still plenty to cast an eye over. Notable panels include Marvel (Television), Game of Thrones and Warner Bros. Here are five panels to watch out for next weekend:

The Walking Dead

Showrunner Scott M. Gimple and executive producer Robert Kirkman will be in attendance as well as cast members Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Steven Yeun, Melissa McBride and Lauren Cohen and more. The panel is expected to discuss the latest turn of events at the end of Season 5 along with a Q&A session. The panel normally gives a glimpse of next season too, so expect some form of teaser to come out of this event. The panel will take place on Friday.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens

The Lucasfilm panel will include director J.J. Abrams, writer Lawrence Kasdan, producer and Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and special guests. Despite a trailer and some character backgrounds there’s still a lot we don’t know about this film. The notoriously secretive J.J. Abrams will want to keep a tight lid on things until the film releases later this year but there’s a good chance there will be something announced or revealed at the panel. This panel will also appear on Friday.

Warner Bros. Television and DC Entertainment

Although the cinematic universe will take all the headlines, the real goodies will be in the Warner Bros. Television panel. Shows such as Arrow, The Flash and upcoming spinoff Legends of Tomorrow are proving to be very popular and all of them will be in attendance. The panel will feature a screening of the pilot episode of Supergirl along with a Q&A with the actors and producers as well as Q&As with cast members of Arrow, The Flash and Gotham. It will be interesting to see more of Legends of Tomorrow and maybe some hints as to the future of characters such as Oliver Queen and Barry Allen after somewhat ambiguous endings to prior seasons of Arrow and The Flash. The panel will feature on Saturday.

20th Century Fox

20th Century Fox has a busy slate of films coming up including X-Men: Apocalypse, Deadpool, Gambit and Fantastic Four. Expect to see plenty of Fantastic Four which is out soon and glimpses of what 20th Century Fox hopes will form a cinematic universe in 2016. Expect to see some material from X-Men: Apocalypse by way of director Bryan Singer and probably cast members such as Hugh Jackman. The panel commences on Saturday.

Warner Bros. Movies (DC)

Without a doubt, Batman vs Superman will be a big talking point with the film slated to release next March. Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill and Gal Gadot will return to the stage after stealing the show last year. Joining them will be co-stars Amy Adams, Jesse Eisenberg, Jeremy Irons and Holly Hunter. Expect to learn much more about the DC cinematic universe moving forward including the Justice League movie and Suicide Squad. Zack Snyder will certainly want to please fans with some questioning the material shown so far. Hopefully, we will get to see more of Batman vs Superman. The panel kicks off on Saturday.

Honorable Mention: Heroes Reborn

While I wouldn’t say I’m excited by Heroes Reborn, I am intrigued. When Heroes debuted in 2006, it was an instant fan favorite. However, after two seasons the show quickly began to lose steam, confusing what made these characters so memorable and losing focus. Fast forward nine years and we are presented with Heroes Reborn, a 13-episode miniseries brought to us by Tim Kring, the creator of the original show. The panel will be attended by returning cast members Greg Grunberg and Jack Coleman as well as newcomers such as Zachary Levi. It will be interesting to see if Heroes can recapture what made it special when it debuted. The panel will take place on Sunday.

Well, there you have it. What panels are you most excited about? What news do you hope to come out of SDCC 2015? Leave your thoughts in the comments below.
