Shovel Knight Coming to Nintendo Switch
Shovel Knight Digging Its Way to the Switch
Popular platformer Shovel Knight is coming to the Nintendo Switch, the developer has announced.
Over on their blog, Yacht Club Games made the announcement alongside changes to its release plans for the game’s expansions.
The current version of the game will be re-titled Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove and will still include all current expansions of the game, Plague of Shadows and Spector of Torment plus future expansions.
Current owners of the game will still get all expansions as free updates.
However, starting in the Spring and for players on Nintendo Switch anyone picking up a Shovel Knight title, be it the main campaign now re-titled Shovel of Hope or the expansions, will be purchasing a standalone title.
Consequently, the change will only affect new players who now have the option to purchase each expansion separately or the full package option, Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove.
In addition, the price of Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove will be increasing in the Spring, so new players looking to save some cash should look to purchase before then.
Yacht Club Games explained the somewhat confusing structure change on its blog:
“Why is this happening? Well, we hope providing less expensive standalone versions will provide better entry points for different types of players! Also, players can more easily grab an adventure (or Battle Mode) on another platform!”
Further into 2017, the developer has two more expansions planned including a King’s Knight campaign and a 4-player Battle Mode which won’t be available on Nintendo 3DS or Playstation Vita.
Finally, a two player co-op mode will be coming to all platforms as a free update except 3DS and Vita plus Body Swap Mode including sprites and illustrations of all-new designs for body-swapped versions of the main characters.
You can expect a round-up of all Nintendo Switch news tomorrow following the publisher’s conference in New York tonight.
