SNES Classic to Continue Shipping in 2018, NES Classic Also Returning
The SNES Classic Will Continue to Ship in 2018
Nintendo have announced that the much sought after Super NES Classic (SNES Classic) will continue to ship to outlets in 2018.
The console had previously been scheduled to cease production at the end of the calendar year.
Nintendo also stated that more consoles will be available on launch day for the SNES Classic than an entire year’s worth of the NES Classic:
“Fans have shown their unbridled enthusiasm for these Classic Edition systems, so Nintendo is working to put many more of them on store shelves.”
To add further fuel to the demand for the nostalgia-driven consoles comes the announcement that the NES Classic will be returning to store shelves next summer with the publisher promising more details in the future.
The consoles, which are pre-loaded with classic Nintendo titles, have been extremely popular much to the excitement – and disappointment – of fans.
Many of the limited edition consoles have been snapped up by individuals who are selling them at an inflated price on places like eBay for as much as £300, around five times the price Nintendo asked for.
The SNES Classic is scheduled for release on 29th September here in the U.K. and North America and features 21 classic games including The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Star Fox and Super Mario Kart. You can see a full list of the games here.
Nintendo has had a noticeably more successful sales run for its consoles after last generation’s disappointing sales of the Wii U.
As of July this year, Nintendo has sold over four million units of their main console, the Nintendo Switch which continues to be popular.
