Why Grant Gustin isn’t Justice League‘s Flash
Director Zack Snyder has spoken about why Grant Gustin’s Flash wasn’t cast in the Justice League movie due out on November 16, 2017.
Gustin who appears as The Flash on The CW network has proven popular with audiences and to some may seem like a natural choice to portray the scarlet speedster on the big screen.
However, Ezra Miller (The Perks of Being a Wallflower) was given the role instead and in addition to getting his own solo film in March 2018, is also rumoured to cameo in this week’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
In an interview with the New York Daily News, Snyder explained why Gustin’s Flash wouldn’t work in Justice League:
“I just don’t think it was a good fit.
“I’m very strict with this universe, and I just don’t see a version where … that (tone is) not our world.”
Snyder went on to suggest that despite an acknowledgement of a multiverse in the TV show, the world’s won’t be crossing over in the future:
“Even if Grant Gustin is my favorite guy in the world and he’s very good, we made a commitment to the multi-verse (idea), so it’s just not a thing that’s possible.”
This method contrasts with Warner Bros’ competitor Marvel who have chosen to have their TV properties exist in the same world or universe of the films.
In January, Gustin took to Twitter to express his support for Ezra Miller’s casting:
“I fully support Ezra Miller as Barry Allen and the Flash on the feature side of DC.
“I’ve never met the guy, but I think he is a fantastic and interesting actor.”
Warner Bros. is about to push forward its own superhero universe with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice releasing this week.
